A message from the leader of South Gloucestershire Council

From Toby Savage, leader, South Gloucestershire Council

WITH a host of information circulating about COVID-19, I want to highlight the key contact telephone numbers and online resources for support in South Gloucestershire.

The COVID-19 section of our website www.southglos.gov.uk/coronavirusincludes information about local community groups that are helping vulnerable people across the district, changes to council services due to the outbreak, and regularly updated FAQs. We ask that wherever possible you first check to see if the information you need is available there.

We have a new freephone number for queries about the council’s COVID-19 response as we want to be able to provide priority support to those who do not have access to our website. The number is 0800 9537778and we can be contacted 8.45am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.45am to 4.30pm Fridays. Our contact centre staff will provide information as well as directing you to the right place for the right help. This line is only for COVID-19-related queries and we expect it to be very busy.

There is also a number specifically for residents who received a letter from the NHS advising them to shield in their own homes. Those who received this letter should contact the Government website and helpline to register their situation, but we have also set up a special team at the council to support them if necessary. If you need help or have questions about your shielding letter, are facing difficulties or a changing situation, please either email community.shielding@southglos.gov.ukor call 01454 864040.

For all other telephone enquiries, please continue to use our main contact centre number 01454 868009.

Residents can also contact Southern Brooks Community Partnerships, who are working alongside the council and linking in with the range of voluntary groups across South Gloucestershire to connect individuals with the help they need.

Southern Brooks are also providing practical support such as shopping, collecting prescriptions, dog walking etc if it's not possible for other groups to do this.

Their number 07773 209943is staffed from 11am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 12 noon to 6pm weekends, and the team is also available by email at communitysupport@southernbrooks.org.uk.
