Alexandra celebrating her qualification
ONE of Stroud Auction Rooms' young experts is celebrating her qualification as a jewellery valuer with Gem-A, the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.
Twenty-four-year-old Alexandra Bowkett, who is already a professional diamond grader, has become a Fellow of The Gemmological Association, after passing the Gem-A examinations in London.
This internationally recognised qualification makes Alexandra the most qualified full-time jewellery valuer in Gloucestershire.
During her six years as Stroud Auctions' jewellery expert, she has also dealt with some extremely large collections of Georgian and Victorian jewellery including cut steel, Berlin iron work and mourning jewellery. She is also enthusiastic about costume jewellery and often finds an overlooked item hidden in the collections she takes in for auction.
Alexandra, who is also training as a general valuer, said: "Although I am obviously delighted to have gained my FGA qualification, I am just as happy looking through costume jewellery as I am appraising a highly valuable diamond or gemstone."
Alexandra's specialist jewellery sales, held every three months at Stroud Auction Rooms, attract buyers and sellers across the globe. The next jewellery sale at Stroud is in June.
