A CAR plunged into a flooded ditch after leaving a road in Alveston.

Firefighters, police and even the air ambulance were called to Earthcott Road shortly after 5.20pm yesterday after the Volkswagen Polo ended up on its side in a rhyne.

An Avon Fire and rescue Service spokesperson said the occupants of the car had managed to escape before emergency services arrived.

Crews from Avonmouth, Temple, Patchway, Thornbury and Bedminster fire stations were called out to the incident.
