By ‘eck lad, Gromit’s coming to Thornbury
The daring duo have been to a few exotic places in their time, including the moon. It would seem that the next destination for Gromit, if not Wallace, is Thornbury.
The town is the destination for one of the Gromit models that are being prepared as part of Gromit Unleashed 2 - the latest Grand Appeal for the Bristol Children’s Hospital.
Wallace, Gromit and arch villain Feathers McGraw will all feature on the trail which is backed by creators Aardman Animation, but it’s Gromit who will feature here.
The Thornbury Chamber of Commerce are behind bringing the much loved character to the town. The statue will be placed in the main area of the St Mary’s Centre. The Thornbury Gromit will be the most northerly on this year’s trail.
At the moment it’s not known which Gromit will grace Thornbury, as many of the statues are still being painted by artists. Local businesses and individuals donated the money needed to bring Gromit to Thornbury.
Rowena Moncrieffe, chairman of Thornbury Chamber of Commerce said : “We are very excited that Gromit will be coming to visit Thornbury. With how popular the trail has been in the past, it would be great to see him bring in lots of new visitors to see what Thornbury has to offer”.
The first Gromit Unleashed event raised £2.3m for the Grand Appeal. It also allowed thousands of people to spend a large part of their summer following the arts trail, trying to visit the location of each statue.
The Gromit Unleashed 2 event starts on July 2 and will finish on 2 September. More information about the popular event can be found on its website: www.gromitunleashed.org.uk
