THE festive season will be launched in Thornbury on November 21 when the town’s Christmas lights are switched on.

Volunteers from the Thornbury Christmas Lights Association have been turning out on Sundays since mid-October in all weather conditions - even during Storm Brian - to start putting up the decorations.

They will all be in place for the switch-on, which will take place alongside the traditional funfair, entertainment and street stalls that bring in crowds of people.

This year’s beneficiary of the event will be the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity and some of its team and volunteers - together with Charlie the Critical Care Bear - will be in Thornbury on the night.

Families can enjoy the activities from 5.30pm-8.30pm and people have been warned in advance of restricted access to High Street during the day.

As with the town’s summer floral displays, the festive lights are a big draw, bringing in visitors to Thornbury to enjoy the spectacle.
