People volunteering at the Thornbury Community Orchard and Morton Bridge Wildflower Meadow have been learning how to cut grass the old fashioned way, by scything.

The course, sponsored by Thornbury based law firm Barcan+Kirby,  saw ten volunteers learn and hone their skills in time to mow the meadow and orchard ready for Autumn.

John Mills, scything course organiser for Thornbury Community Orchard said: "In the past we've only had three regular volunteers who have had scythe training, so we had to rely on them to lead when scything was required.”

"The sponsorship has enabled us to hold a course so that we will have more volunteers capable to help in future years."
