SPRING blossom and flowers can be enjoyed during an open day at Thornbury’s community orchard.

SPRING blossom and flowers can be enjoyed during an open day at Thornbury’s community orchard.

The new event, organised by the Sustainable Thornbury Orchard Group, will also give visitors the chance to see the award winning Morton Bridge wildflower meadow.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 28, when families can go along any time between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

It is hoped they will see a display of apple and plum blossom, as well as spring flowers, in the orchard and see why the wildflower meadow so impressed South West in Bloom judges.

The land is owned by South Gloucestershire Council but managed by a team of volunteers, who will be able to tell visitors how they manage the site for fruit production, beneficial bees, pollinators and other wildlife and for the enjoyment of the local community.

They will also be able to have a go at an Eye Spy-type hunt throughout the site.

The meadow and orchard are just off Gloucester Road, opposite the Anchor pub.

Visitors are welcome to take their own soft drinks and snacks along.
