Free screening of award-winning film to herald cinema club’s new season

THE Oscar-winning movie Cinema Paradiso will be screened by Thornbury Picture House ahead of the launch of the film club’s new season.

THE Oscar-winning movie Cinema Paradiso will be screened by Thornbury Picture House ahead of the launch of the film club’s new season.

Set in Sicily, the film tells of a young boy’s fascination with cinema and his relationship with a kindly projectionist.

It has sub-titles and features a music score by Ennio Morricone, with the 7.30pm screening on Friday, September 8, in the Armstrong Hall free to attend.

The club’s regular season of 11 films will than start on Friday, September 29, with The Olive Tree to be shown in the Cossham Hall. The movie is a family tale of love and loss and the significance of an ancient olive tree.

Other highlights of the season include the documentary Listen to me Marlon; Ken Loach's second Cannes Palme d'Or winner I, Daniel Blake;  the sub-titled Labyrinth of Lies and the animated movie Ethel and Ernest.

Club membership for the whole season costs £27.50 but audiences can also pay £5 at the door to see each film.
