Gromit winners showcased
The winning designs from the town’s Gromit colouring competition have been in the spotlight in the St Mary Centre.
Sarah Jane Grace, the artist who designed and painted Thornbury’s Gromit statue, ‘Honeysuckle Rose’, judged the entries, which she said were of a very high standard. Over 100 children and adults had entered the competition which was run by the town’s Chamber of Commerce and Thornbury Library.
There were three age groups; 7 and under, 8-16 and over 16. They were won by Rosie Harraway, Freya Davies Mouncher, and Henrietta Ebbs respectively.
Sarah Jane also gave a special mention to Emily Day, Aoife McBride, Sophie Wistow, T Lucas, Isabella Shoreman, Sid Sealey, Eva Wilde, and Ellen Hall.
The winners received a Gromit figurine to paint themselves, plus a Thornbury notebook and bag.
Honeysuckle Rose herself sold at auction for £16,000. The Grand Appeal Charity raised £1.3 million on auction night.
