High demand for memory cafes leads to launch of second facility in Thornbury

A NEW memory cafe is about to open in Thornbury to help meet a demand from people with dementia and their carers.

A NEW memory cafe is about to open in Thornbury to help meet a demand from people with dementia and their carers.

The town already has one such facility that is held in the Methodist church every two weeks.

Now Haven Memory Cafe will provide a similar service in the United Reformed Church on alternate weeks from June 23.

Organisers said Haven would complement the first cafe, opening on Friday mornings and serving Thornbury and the surrounding area.

With a large and growing demand for such services, it is hoped the second cafe will be well supported.

But ahead of its opening, a steering group needs to recruit volunteers to help out, welcome and chat to visitors and serve refreshments.

An information and training morning for potential volunteers will be held on Friday, May 19, and anyone interested should contact Barbara Goom on 01454 414826.
