COMMUNITY groups in Thornbury can apply for cash help to support their work in the town.

COMMUNITY groups in Thornbury can apply for cash help to support their work in the town.

In the latest round of applications, organisations can put in a bid to the town council for small grants, which are usually for sums up to £1,000.

They are normally offered on a one-off basis to support a particular project, event, activity or purchase of equipment.

They are also open to new groups wishing to start up and are looking for a small contribution towards their running costs.

Grants can only be given to groups located and working in Thornbury for the direct benefit of the community.

To apply for a small grant, requests have to be made to the council by December 1.

The same closing date has been set for applications for revenue grants, which are given to organisations which provide a significant service to the community.

They go towards running costs and in principle can be awarded for up to three years.
