Major investment for popular Thornbury play area
CIVIC leaders are planning to spend £85,000 on a new play area at Thornbury’s popular Mundy Playing Fields.
The town council said it was continuing its programme of investment into new play facilities through the scheme to completely refurbish those at the site.
Contractor Proludic has been appointed to design and install the new play area before the summer holidays.
It will involve replacing the majority of the old equipment and safety surfacing, while retaining and incorporating the splash pad, zip wire, embankment slides, roundabout, climbing frame and balance bars.
Adult exercise equipment will also be relocated away from the children's play area.
The council said: “We aim to provide an inclusive play space that can be used for all children aged up to 16, split between a dedicated toddler area based around the splash pad and linked by the slides to the main children’s play area.
“Working with Proludic and based on consultation undertaken last year, we have drawn up designs that we want the community’s views on before we place the final order for the equipment.
“We are particularly keen to hear from people as to which pieces of play equipment can be added to the core design, whether we are providing the right range of play activities and any suggestions that could improve the play area.”
Anyone who wants to comment on the proposals can do so until April 3.
The second of two drop-in consultation events will also take place on Saturday, March 24, from 10am-1pm in the St Mary Centre.
The plans can also be seen online at www.thornburytowncouncil.gov.uk or at the Town Hall in High Street during normal opening hours.
