HUNDREDS of swimmers are set to take the plunge in an annual fund raising event at  Thornbury’s leisure centre.

The Thornbury Rotary Club Swimarathon is a long-running feature in the town and last year alone more than 300 participants completed a total of 125 miles to bring in £21,200 for local charities and good causes.

This year’s event takes place during the weekend of March 2-4 and will again be a sponsored relay challenge for all ages in teams of up to six swimmers.

Details on how to be involved are on the club’s website www.thornburyrotary.org/swimarathon and entry is free.

Organiser Stuart Hill can also be contacted by emailing Swimarathon@thornburyrotary.org or phoning 07913 241437.

The club said Berkeley Vale Motors would be the main sponsor of the event, while other local businesses had pledged their support.

Castle School’s steel band Panache will also play at the poolside to help create a carnival atmosphere.

Among charities to benefit fro the event will be the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Jigsaw Thornbury.
