Netball club’s debut season a success
THORNBURY Netball Club have finished their debut season in the Avon Netball League as runners-up in their division.
The mixed-ability club, set up a year ago to give anyone who wanted to play netball the chance to do so in a friendly atmosphere, entered the league’s Division 10 at the start of the 2018/19 season.
They lost just four matches out of 16 over the course of the season – two of them to eventual champions EMU – and won their last seven on the bounce to claim second place.
Club secretary Samantha Baker-Green said: “Back at the beginning of last year when members sat down to set the club up, never did we imagine in our wildest dreams that we would be finishing our first season as runners-up!
“We are so unbelievably proud of each and every one of our club members. They train hard each week, they offer their commitment, they deliver results and, most importantly, have fun.
“Thank you everyone who has been involved, the committee who work tirelessly in running the club, our dedicated coach Jane Sunnucks and our sponsors who we are so very grateful for.”
The club’s sponsors are the Royal George, Turnberries Community Centre, Arobase Creative,
345 Building and KP Fencing and they are looking for more for next season. Anyone who is interested in helping should contact the club by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
