School swimmers crowned national champions
An under 11 boys team from Tockington Manor School have been crowned champions in the finals of a UK wide swimming competition for private schools.
The Independent Association of Prep Schools held their national swimming finals at the London Aquatic Centre in Queen Elizabeth Park.
The Under 11’s swam in the 8x25 metre relay, and took the lead in the final 50 metres, winning by 10 hundredths of a second.
Bernie Hinchliffe, Head of Swimming at Tockington Manor School said: “We are incredibly proud of all of our swimmers who made it to the national finals. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to swim in the Olympic pool. Congratulations to national champions Alex, James, Henry, Toby, James, Gabe, Cole and Oliver.”
Jake, a year 8 pupil was awarded a silver medal for the butterfly, winning with a time of 13.06 seconds.
The girls Under 11’s team finished thirteenth and fourteenth in two relay finals; the boys under 13’s freestyle relay saw them finish in ninth place, and a year 8 pupil came in twelfth in the finals with a time of 15.7 seconds.
