The Kay Evans Trophy and Members Day competitions also took place.

When competitions first started 20 years ago, Kay Evans was the vice-chairman. Kay’s family wanted to give the club a trophy in her memory and we still hold this competition yearly.

This year’s theme was Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend and it was won by Brenda Cooke. Jo Whiteman was runner-up and Christine Mullins was third.

The Kathleen Hawkins award A Diamond Anniversary was won by Joan Adams, who had made a cake from oasis, which was decorated with leaves pinned around the sides and tied with a ribbon. White roses were placed on top to represent the icing.

The Carmen Pitts award Green with Envy was won by Sally Taylor, with Margaret Orchard second and Rose Lock third. The Nancy Robbins award Twinkle, Twinkle Little Gem was won by Joan Nash. Runner-up was Christine Mullins and Jenny Gaston was third.

A group of committee members later entertained the club with demonstrations depicting television programmes from the Sixties. This was a enjoyable afternoon to end our celebrations.

On September 20, Liz Gordon will be our demonstrator with Any Pot will Do. For further information about the event, phone 01453 811089 or 01454 885213.
