Strength in depth for Rockhampton as season gets into full swing

Rockhampton Cricket Club is reaping the benefits of adding a fourth team to play Saturday cricket.

The newly formed fourth XI, led by Derek Newcombe, are fifth after 7 league games in Martin Berrill Divsion 2. The team is made up of a real mixture of both ages and abilities with a number of the U13 side playing alongside some of the clubs’ elder statesmen. In a recent match Derek Newcome and Ed Twemlow put on over 200 for the first wicket with Derek scoring 102 and Twemlow ending up unbeaten on 170.

The third XI, now led by captain Neil Bainbridge, currently sit in fourth place in the Martin Berrill Premier League having played six and won four with some impressive displays from youngsters Rob Gill and Davis Newcombe.

The second XI are fourth, having also played six and won four in the Gloucestershire County League Division 3. There have been notable performances from Simon Hore and Jeremy White with the bat and Chris Pearce with the ball.

The first team, captained by Jack Spence are fourth in the Glos/Wilts Prem2 division, having played six and won four including a victory over local rivals Thornbury.  They are also through to the last 32 in the country in The National Village Knockout and travel to the winners of the Hampshire Group, Liphook & Ripsley. In a team full of excellent cricketers, it's been the two Tyler brothers who have performed above and beyond expectations with over 1,000 runs in all competitions.
