Tennis club keeps busy through the winter

Thornbury Tennis Club has a programme of eight LTA sanctioned tournaments scheduled through the Winter months: six for juniors and two for adults.

The tournaments draw entries from competition players from across the South West, Midlands and Wales.

There are several seasonal events in the run up to the Christmas including an American Tournament coupled with mince pies and mulled wine on 22nd December.

The recently refurbished clubhouse has hosted a successful quiz and curry evening, with club member and experienced quiz-master, Matt Stringer, in the chair.

The Winter schedule comes after a busy Autumn at the club as the  Avon Mixed Summer League concluded.

The First Team finished fifth in a very competitive league winning three of their ten matches.  Significant victories were the two fixtures against Hanham Firsts.  The team secured a 6-4 home win and an 8-2 away win.

The Second Team also finished fifth with four match victories.  The most notable were a 6-4 home win against Hanham Seconds and a 6-4 away win against Winterbourne Firsts, including a 6-0, 6-0 result in the final match of the season.
