Thornbury Lawn Tennis Club says it’s looking forward to the warmer days with a busy summer shedule.

The President’s Plate tournament, a mixed doubles event for club members, is set to be one of the highlights.

Last year’s winners, Brendan Wilde and Megan O’Connor, will be defending their title, although there is likely to be stiff competition from several other pairs.  The event will be followed immediately by the club’s Wimbledon Draw.  The club has 13 pairs of tickets for Wimbledon which will be distributed to eligible members through a ballot. The allocation includes a pair of tickets for the ladies’ singles final.

The club has also entered 10 teams of four players in the Avon Summer League.  Each team will play five home and five away matches against teams from other tennis clubs in the Avon area.  It is hoped the club will be represented by more than 60 members through the league programme.

The Club Annual Tournament for members is also likely to be a busy time, with mens and ladies singles as well as Men’s, Ladies and Mixed Doubles.  The highlight of last year’s event was the success of two 12 year olds, Luke Johnson and Brooke Daunton, in winning the Mixed Doubles title.

As well as the tournaments, the club also has five Club Sessions each week, making use of the facilities that have had over £120,000 invested in them recently.  It’s also looking for new members to join the 200 already signed up.
