Sunday July 2nd saw the changeover of Presidents, which signals the start of another year for the Lions.

Outgoing President John Poole handed over the reins to Shekar Bheenuck at a lunch at the Anchor Inn at Oldbury on Severn.  John reported another very successful year with the bookshop still the major source of funds to use for donations.

A large number of groups and organisations, local and national benefited from our support with some of the more recent being the Red Cross with donations for the victims of the Manchester and London attacks, the Chantry in Thornbury with help towards a new stair lift and Jigsaw the children’s  charity in Thornbury.

The latest project for us was actually started by our Lions Young Ambassador Lizzie O’Brien who gave her bursary from winning the Lions District public speaking competition towards the purchase of defibrillators.

Lizzie’s mother Elaine has set up courses for young people including members of Castle School sixth form to enable them to learn how to use the equipment. The Club members became traffic marshals for the Thornbury Carnival Parade.
