Thornbury tennis veterans help charity

THORNBURY Tennis Club was the venue for a mixed doubles tournament for sixteen couples which raised more than £700 for charity.

The Tennis Veterans Society has more than 100 members across the region and holds several tournaments each year: in the ten years since it started £19,000 has been raised from more then 60 tournaments.

The latest vent in late October raised a total of £710 for JIGSAW Thornbury, which supports more than 400 families who have children with any additional needs or disabilities, in the town and across South Gloucestershire and Bristol.

Tournament organiser Steve Wells, a local resident and Tennis Vets Society founder, handed the donation to Tor Goodman of the charity.

Steve said: “We’ve had a great day with some very high quality tennis and are very grateful to Thornbury Tennis Club for generously allowing us to use their excellent facilities, and we are particularly pleased to support JIGSAW Thornbury because of the very important work that they do”.

JIGSAW Thornbury provides support groups, a lending library, holiday activities, training events and will soon start to run after-school activities.

Tor said: “Donations such as this are essential so we can continue to provide the essential support for these children and their families.”
