The Alzheimer’s Society is looking for volunteers. It needs group support volunteers who provide support to the group leader to enable people affected by dementia to socialise in a welcoming and non-judgemental environment.

Volunteers will help set out the room, put out signage, record attendees, prepare and serve simple refreshments, welcome and talk to guests and participants.  It also requires administration support volunteers.  Duties include; filing, photocopying, receiving visitors, answering telephone calls, assisting with the planning and organisation of meetings, purchasing stationary, helping with mailings, the distribution of publications, handling post and processing data.

JIGSAW Thornbury is seeking a PR/Media assistant to strengthen its position in the world and to deal with the media and advertising in a positive way. Jigsaw supports families who have children with additional needs and disabilities. They provide a support group, SEN and sensory lending library and have family fun days out and parents' social and awareness events.

Brain Tumour Support is a charity based in Thornbury that’s dedicated to giving specialist help and support to families facing the often life changing impact of a brain tumour diagnosis. They need people to distribute and monitor their collection tins. This process will involve contacting local businesses, either face-to-face or over the phone, to find suitable locations for the collection tins. You will also need to keep a record of where all collection tins are based and follow them up 2-3 times a year to assess if they need emptying. Full training and support will be given.

Age UK South Gloucestershire offer a befriending service to older people and the volunteer mentor role is vital to its success. Mentors make regular contact with their allocated team of befrienders to check that they are happy and motivated. They keep the Volunteer Manager up to date and provide support to volunteer befrienders on issues that arise during their visits. Full induction, safeguarding and specific training given.

Thornbury Welcomes is aiming to make Thornbury a more inclusive and welcoming town.  It’s seeking a Director to join its team who can offer oversight of the organisation; strategic planning, integrity and experience with additional needs would be welcomed. It’s also seeking volunteers who would like to help promote this initiative.
