Severnisde Tritons Swimming club are celebrating after one of their of their athletes won medals at a national competition.

Caitlin Lynam won a bronze medal double at the Swim England National Summer Meet in the 50 and 100 metre breaststroke events.

After qualifying in first place in the heats of the 100m race, Caitlin swam a new personal best time of 1.15.66 in closely contested final. She then followed that up four days later in the 50m event by again placing third in the final, in another personal best time.

Severnside had three swimmers who qualified for this summer’s nationals held in Sheffield. Jess Part joined Caitlin in the pool at Ponds Forge, whilst Alice Hayward took part in the Open Water Festival, swimming in the 1.5km event.

Alice qualified for the national competition in her first open water race at Weymouth back in June, where she picked up both a county gold and a regional silver medal. Over the same distance in the lake at Rother Valley she bettered her time by one and a half minutes.

Jess, swimming in her first national competition, competed in the 800 metre event on the final day of competition. Jess qualified for the nationals when picking up a south west region bronze medal in May.

Severnside Tritons is a competitive swimming club based at Thornbury leisure centre, but also training at Stroud.

The club currently boasts several county age group champions, a number of regional qualifiers and three national standard swimmers.

In addition to the competitive swim squads, the club offer Swim Development Group sessions on Fridays at Thornbury for swimmers who have achieved at least Swim England Stage 5 or above. It is aimed at children aged between 6 and 9, to provide an extra swim session in addition to their regular lesson in a swim school, where they can improve their skills and fitness before potentially moving into the competition section. This is usually via a transitional Club-Link session which is held at Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre also on a Friday.
