AN event to introduce the U3A - University of the Third Age - to potential members in the Thornbury area will be held in early March.

The organisation is an international movement for the retired or those approaching retirement who want to continue learning new skills and boosting their education.

Its aim is to keep people mentally and physically engaged and active without them having to travel too far or enrol on expensive courses.

Thornbury and District U3A already has more than 1,700 members, with some 90 different groups meeting at various venues throughout the area.

Their interests range from archaeology to walking, crafts, board games and theatre, with some going on organised visits and others learning more about particular educational topics.

A welcome meeting will be held on Monday, March 5, at 3.30pm in St Mary’s Church Hall, Eastbury Road.
