YOUNG people who want to challenge themselves and boost their personal and leadership skills have the chance to join a course being offered by Thornbury Rotary Club.

The all-expenses Rotary Youth Leadership Awards course is open to those aged 16-18 and takes place in the Forest of Dean in the summer.

It will involve some 40 students from across greater Bristol and Gloucestershire, with the Thornbury club able to offer places to two people from its area.

Those taking part will tackle a series of challenging, practical and theoretical tasks through teamwork.

Although it is not an outdoor adventure programme, activities do include a ropes course, canoeing, climbing and orienteering.

The challenges, backed up by theory, are used to give participants opportunities to put their learning into practice in a safe and supportive environment.

The course is open to those with a reasonable level of physical fitness and will be run by professional tutors.

Anyone interested should email guy.rawlinson@blueyonder.co.uk for more information.

The deadline for expressions of interest is April 30.
