Man dies after assault in village pub car park

A MAN has died after being assaulted in a pub car park.

Police said 46-year-old Scott Hendy died in hospital yesterday, after being injured in the early hours of Saturday morning in the car park off Redwick Road, Pilning.

A resident of the village, George Baylis, was arrested after the incident and has appeared in court charged with manslaughter.

An Avon & Somerset police spokesperson said emergency services were called to reports of an assault in the car park, outside the Kings Arms, at about 12.15am on Saturday

Mr Hendy was taken to Southmead Hospital, where he died yesterday.

The spokesperson added: “His next of kin are aware. Our thoughts are with them and they are receiving specialist support from family liaison officers.

“A forensic post-mortem examination will be conducted.”

Baylis, aged 29, of Redwick Road, was initially charged with causing grievous bodily harm following the incident.

However when he appeared at Bristol Magistrates Court today a new charge of manslaughter was made against him.

Baylis will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on April 8.
