Driver arrested after cyclist is killed in crash

A CYCLIST has died in a collision with a car near the Severn Bridge.

Police say the driver of the car involved in the crash in Aust yesterday was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug-driving.

They are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or CCTV video footage that could help their investigation to get in touch.

A police spokesperson said the collision happened at 12.36pm yesterday on Aust Road, and involved a grey Mercedes car and a cyclist.

The spokesperson said: “Tragically, despite the best efforts of the ambulance service, the cyclist died at the scene.

“Their next of kin have been informed and will be supported by a family liaison officer.

“Our thoughts are with them.

“A man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while over the prescribed limit for drugs, and later released under investigation.”

No details about the cyclist or the driver have been released.

The road was shut until 8.30pm as collision investigators examined the scene of the crash.
