A BURGLAR who was discovered by a woman in her kitchen has been sentenced to more than two years in jail.
Kai Rossiter, aged 44, was carrying a hammer when he was found by the householder in Rodway Road, Mangotsfield, on the morning of September 16.
He fled from the house, and several other residents reported seeing a man running through gardens and climbing fences in nearby roads, including Burley Crest.
Police were able to track down and arrest Rossiter, of Thornbury, soon afterwards.
He appeared before Bristol Magistrates’ Court the following day and later pleaded guilty to a single charge of burglary.
In December a judge a Bristol Crown Court sentenced Rossiter to a total of 876 days in prison – just under two years and five months.
After the sentencing, Avon & Somerset police detainee investigating officer Jessica Clark said: “This incident was able to be quickly managed due to the support from the public in calling police and allowing us to keep track of Rossiter before he could flee the area.
“This is just one example of the impact the public have on helping us find offenders and bring them to justice, and I’d like to thank those who reported the incident which is what led to this outcome.
“The custodial sentence of two years and five months will hopefully offer some solace to the community and prevent any further harm.”
